Guided by our ethos of “better health for every body,” McCabes Pharmacy is proud to partner HUGG, the national suicide bereavement organisation. As Ireland's leading community Pharmacy brand, we recognise the profound impact suicide has on individuals, families, and communities across the country. With our network of 110 pharmacies, we will help raise awareness and funds to support the vital services provided by HUGG.
Founded in 2017 by Fiona Tuomey after the tragic death of her daughter Milly, HUGG was born from a deep need for connection with others who had experienced similar grief. With around 500 suicides* recorded in Ireland each year - and research showing that every suicide can impact up to 135 people** - more than 60,000 individuals may be affected annually and in need of postvention support.
HUGG provides a vital lifeline through free support groups led by volunteers with lived experience. Their work in suicide postvention - activities and initiatives that take place after a suicide to reduce the risk of further loss - is a powerful and essential part of suicide prevention.
