Our Brand Story
Originally back in the 1960’s Roy and Margaret McCabe left Ireland and emigrated to Australia where she worked as a midwife, and he worked in the construction trade. In 1973, with one child and a mortgage, Roy decided to go to university as a mature student where he graduated in pharmacy in 1976.
Four children later and some pharmacy experience under the belt, Roy and Margaret sold everything to travel the whole of Australia for a year in a camper van with children in tow. They returned to Ireland in 1979. Roy worked for Hayes Cunningham and Roberts for 2 years and ran their Blanchardstown branch. After several attempts to set up his own business, he finally purchased a small store in Malahide in 1981. The first Sunday’s takings were £34.11.
Over the following 40 years the McCabes brand has grown from strength to strength and in 2024 was acquired by PHX Ireland.
During the latter part of 2024, the PHX Ireland retail pharmacy chain Lloydspharmacy rebranded their 80 pharmacies to McCabes Pharmacy and along with the 30 original McCabes Pharmacies has become Ireland’s leading and most patient centric pharmacy brand.
