Our Story
Roy and Margaret McCabe left Ireland in the 1960’s and emigrated to Australia where she worked as a midwife, and he worked in the construction trade. In 1973, with one child and a mortgage, Roy decided to go to university as a mature student where he graduated in pharmacy in 1976.
Four children later and some pharmacy experience under the belt, Roy and Margaret sold everything to travel the whole of Australia for a year in a camper van with children in tow. They returned to Ireland in 1979. Roy worked for Hayes Cunningham and Roberts for 2 years and ran their Blanchardstown branch. After several attempts to set up his own business, he finally purchased a small store in Malahide in 1981. The first Sunday’s takings were £34.11.
McCabes Pharmacy has been proudly serving the Irish public since 1981 with several family members still working in the business.
