It is now believed that 16% of the general population, that’s 1 in 6 suffers from some degree of hearing loss, by the age of 50 it is up to 1 in 5 and as the years progress this figure can increase. For over 65’s this figure can be as high as 1 in 2. Hearing loss affects not only of the sufferer but those who live with them. Failure to remedy the hearing difficulty impacts upon the family and circle of friends and can lead to feelings of isolation, depression and anxiety.
Early Signs of Hearing Loss

- You make think people mumble or speak too softly
- You may have the television or radio louder than the other members of the household.
- You may have noises or buzzing in the ears or head.

The Hearing Test
A full hearing assessment will take approximately 60minutes.It involves a professional examination of your hearing. Firstly we carry out an otoscopic examination, checking for the health of your outer ear and tympanic membrane (ear drum), and the middle ear. Then using advanced audiometric equipment, we test for hearing threshold levels playing different frequencies of sounds at various decibels, and we will have a discussion about any difficulties you may be experiencing with your hearing. Should you have any medical conditions related to your hearing or just a build up of wax in your ears we will refer you to your GP. If a hearing loss is identified, we offer a free demonstration of the latest digital hearing systems available, from leading manufactures such as Oticon, Phonak and Starkey, allowing you to hear better again. We understand that what the sufferer experiences is unique to them and that each person needs a different solution. For this reason we would ask you to bring a family member with you to the test so that we can measure the improvement of a familiar voice during the demonstration.
If you are an existing hearing aid user you should bring your hearing aids with you, and we can service and check them, making sure you are getting the most from your hearing system.
