Haemoglobin Test (Iron Levels)
Feeling tried or run down?
Haemoglobin is the iron-containing protein attached to the red blood cells that transport oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. Haemoglobin bonds with oxygen in the lungs, exchanges it for carbon dioxide at cellular level, and then transports the carbon dioxide to the lungs to be exhaled. Either high or low levels of haemoglobin can be and indication of certain disease conditions.
This screening involves a finger prick to obtain a very small sample of blood. Similar to the cholesterol test the blood sample is put onto a strip which is then put into a machine which reads the level of glucose in the blood.
It takes 1 minute for the machine to read the sample. Our trained consultants will offer you free advice on how to manage your iron levels.
